October 9th-12th, Jonathan's parents (Pop and Grandma) came to New Hampshire for their first visit with Hannah! We had a great time being together and their visit coincided perfectly with PEAK FOLIAGE for this part of New Hampshire! The fall colors were vibrant and the temperatures were fairly standard for this time of year.
While Pop and Grandma were in town, we enjoyed many nice walks around Hopkinton and a nice long stroll in Concord. On Friday afternoon, Sarah and Hannah introduced Pop and Grandma to the apple orchard while Jonathan finished up with work. The next morning, the five of us went out for a big walk to the town beach and then looped back along some country roads where Pop enjoyed reading the historical placards telling of Putney and Kimball's capture by the American Indians. After working up an appetite, Jonathan and Pop headed out on a mission to buy a gallon of apple cider and a dozen fresh homemade donuts from the orchard (yum yum!). The donuts are delicious, but the two donut lovers managed to save half of their stash for their Sunday morning breakfasts.
The general theme of the holiday weekend visit was a few days in the life of the NH Eck Family. Thus, Pop and Grandma had the opportunity to enjoy the world's best ice cream at the Granite State Candy Shop, a nice potluck at First Congregational Church, and another Sunday morning church service that Hannah made it through without hardly making a peep (she was snuggled up in Pop's arms for the duration of the service, which allowed him a free pass to skip out on signing the hymns). The time flew by, and before any of us knew it, Pop and Grandma had to catch their flight back to IL. We hope to see them again sometime soon, but until then, we're thankful for all of the wonderful new communication tools that make the distance between all of us seem much less significant.
